Hamilton Pan Europ H-30

At last year’s Baselworld, Hamilton introduced a contemporary version of its Hamilton Pan Europ, one of the very first wristwatches equipped with an automatic chronograph movement, introduced in 1971. The Hamilton Pan Europ H-30 debuts with a modern-day movement boasting an 80-hour power reserve.

The original Hamilton Pan Europ model contained the legendary Caliber 11 self-winding chronograph movement, co-developed with Breitling and Heuer (today’s TAG Heuer) on a base movement from Buren. This movement was also found in such now-iconic early automatic chronograph watches as the Heuer Monaco, Heuer Autavia, and Breitling Chrono-Matic. Hamilton Pan Europ watches from this era are now considered collectors’ items by many. Current Hamilton Pan Europ chronographs use the ETA-produced H31 movement, which has a power reserve of 60 hours. This new version upgrades to the new Caliber H30, which does not have a chronograph function but lengthens that power reserve by nearly a full day.

The modern Hamilton Pan Europ retains the case shape of the original, with its curving, angular lugs integrated seamlessly into the strap. The stainless steel case is water-resistant to 50 meters and has contemporary dimensions of 42 mm. The bright blue rotating bezel has an aluminum ring. The blue dial has a white reflector ring and the white dial and hands are coated with Super-LumiNova. Bright red is used for the central seconds hand, the tiny seconds and sub-seconds indices from 12 o’clock to 3 o’clock, and on the interior of the perforated black leather strap (a colorful textile strap, in blue with a red central stripe, is also available; both versions are pictured below). The watch also displays the day and date in a double window at 3 o’clock. The Hamilton Pan Europ carries a retail price of just $1,095.

Is this H30 launch in Singapore? If not when will be the recommended retail price?

  2. Just received the blue one the other day and haven’t taken it off my wrist. The case (which is a brushed/polished combo) is a great throw back to the 1970’s. The blue dial, red sweep second hand and the white border gets a lot of looks. Not to mention the red in the leather strap really pops and gives the watch a true racing feel. I cannot wait to try the Nato strap next. I am definitely into retro looking watches and I love the fact that a lot of Swatch Group watches bring back these styles and freshen them up. The pictures do not do it justice. Don’t get me wrong I like the chrono version but this one is a lot more wearable (and less busy) at 42. Plus it packs a real value punch with the two straps and an 80 power reserve! I am thinking about purchasing a mesh bracelet for it as well. I saw a couple pictures of one on mesh on Watchuseek and I was like wow. It’s definitely a watch you just want to take home the minute you see it.

Attractive watch. Quite a reasonable price also.

Tell us, is the H30 caliber the same one, or a derivative of the same movement that is in the Tissot Powermatic 80 line? Both Swatch group divisions after all.
