GMT

The abbreviation for Greenwich mean time, the time at the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, England, which is located at the prime meridian (where longitude measures zero). GMT is the basis for determining time all over the world. Watches that display the time in two time zones are sometimes called “GMT” watches because the wearer can use them to track Greenwich mean time in addition to local time (although so-called “GMT” watches can track any two time zones of the wearer’s choosing; neither of them need be Greenwich mean time).
