As baseball fans, particularly New York Yankees fans, are aware, 2014 marks the final season for Yankees captain and all-star shortstop Derek Jeter. Movado, the watch brand for whom Jeter has been a longime brand ambassador, now commemorates Jeter’s 20-year baseball career with a trio of new watches, the Movado Derek Jeter Captain Series.
Movado’s new Derek Jeter watches — which Movado says have been created “in close collaboration” with the star athlete, are distinguished by a prominent numeral “2,” Jeter’s uniform number with the Yankees, at the 2 o’clock position and a special “Derek Jeter Captain Series” caseback design. Each of the three models in the collection comes in specially designed packaging marking them as part of the Captain Series.
The first of the Movado Derek Jeter Captain Series watches is a sporty version of Movado’s famous Museum Watch, with a 42-mm stainless steel case finished in black PVD. The matte black dial of the Derek Jeter Captain Series Museum Sport watch has a polished black dot at 12 o’clock, a date display in a round window at 6 o’clock, blue-filled hour and minute hands, and a thin, gray vertical-stripes motif (somewhat reminiscent of the iconic Yankee uniform pinstripes). The central seconds hand and the reflector ring surrounding the dial are also blue. The watch, which is powered by a Swiss quartz movement, comes on a black, perforated rubber strap with a stainless steel, black-PVD-finished tongue buckle. The case has a sapphire crystal and is water-resistant to 30 meters. The price is $795.

The other two watches are from the Movado Bold collection, sporting cushion-shaped 44-mm cases, with rotating blue reflector rings around the dials; screw-down crowns at 2 o’clock and 3 o’clock are used to operate the rings and to set and wind the watch, respectively. The dials and black silicone straps (with blue lining) share a textured pattern. Each watch uses blue for the hour markers and big number “2” at 2 o’clock, and white for the filling of the hour and minute hands, tip of the seconds hand, and numerals in the reflector ring. The circular date display at 6 o’clock has white type on a blue field. Each watch has a large Museum Watch-style dot at 12 o’clock, with a subtle sunray finish. The “regular” version of the Movado Derek Jeter Captain Series Movado Bold watch has a black ion-plated (IP) finish on the steel case, which is water-resistant to 100 meters and fitted with a K1 crystal . The other model, which Movado says is available exclusively on the brand’s website, Movado.com, has a stainless steel case without the IP finish. Both watches have quartz movements and both are priced at $695.
