Panerai will produce only 500 examples of the chronometer-certified special limited edition, which features a split-second chronograph that counts down the 5 minutes to the start of a yacht race.

For 2010 Panerai introduces the 45mm Radiomir 8 days Titano with a hand-wound in-house caliber P.2002/9 movement with hours, minutes, small seconds, date, and of course, power reserve – displayed via an indicator located on the back of the watch. The case is brushed titanium.

During his life Galileo tackled several time-measurement problems, devising a system to calculate longitude at sea using Jupiter’s moons as a celestial clock and doing fundamental work on isochronism. Four centuries later, Panerai pays tribute to Galileo’s genius with three impressive timepieces.

The case on the new Luminor 1950 10 Days GMT Ceramica is made of zirconium oxide ceramic, a very hard material that is resistant to corrosion and scratching. The case is formed using an isostatic pressure process that produces a single block ready for milling. The 44mm case requires over 60 operations to complete. The screw-down back is titanium with a sapphire window opening onto the P.2003 automatic movement.

Panerai’s Radiomir Composite Marina Militare 8 Days combines state-of-the-art technical innovation and deep-rooted history in an attractive and distinctive package. The technical innovation is found in the material from which the case is fashioned. The Panerai composite is a material is the result of an electrochemical process of ceramization of aluminum. This material is harder than the ceramics normally used for cases in watch-making (zirconia), and also harder than metals like steel and titanium, as well as being lighter.

New Panerai Caliber P.999 Powers Radiomir 42 mm

At SIHH Officine Panerai presented the P.999, a new hand-wound mechanical movement entirely designed, developed and produced at the Neuchâtel manufacture. The new movement has a 12 ligne or 27.44 mm diameter, making it suitable for Panerai’s smaller timepieces like the Radiomir 42 mm.

SIHH: Something (Really) Big From Panerai: Mare Nostrom 52mm Special Edition

Mare Nostrum is the chronograph that Officine Panerai supplied to the Italian Navy in 1943. Very few prototypes were produced – almost certainly three in total – of which first all trace, and then all relative documentation, was lost following the flood that hit Florence in 1966. Panerai’s discovery of one of the prototypes – now part of the collections at the Officine Panerai Museum in Florence – enabled creation of a new Mare Nostrum in a single edition of just 99 examples that reproduce the original almost exactly, with a few improvements.

Panerai’s Luminor Chrono Daylight 44mm Titanium is the latest descendent of the legendary Luminor. The distinctive case shape and lever bridge are retained, but otherwise, new features abound. The watch is fitted with a C.O.S.C.-certified automatic movement, caliber OP XII, with 27 jewels, decorated oscillating weight and bridges, a 46 hour power reserve, and Incabloc shock protection.
