Zenith Pilot Type 20 Annual Calendar Tribute to Russell Westbrook

Zenith Pilot Type 20 Annual Calendar Russell Westbrook - frontThis week’s Watch to Watch teams up Zenith with one of the NBA’s hottest young talents. The Zenith Pilot Type 20 Annual Calendar Tribute to Russell Westbrook is an extremely limited edition (just five pieces), available exclusively through Westime Jewelers in Los Angeles.

According to Zenith, Westbrook — the all-star point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder and an Olympic gold medal winner with Team USA at the 2012 London Olympics — collaborated on the design of this new watch, part of Zenith’s popular Pilot collection. Its signature function is an annual calendar (which differs from a perpetual calendar in that it accounts for the length of all months except for February, meaning the watch needs to be adjusted just once per year), but this Zenith Pilot Type 20 watch also includes a chronograph function, driven by Zenith’s well-known El Primero 4054 movement. The movement, which features automatic winding and a speedy frequency of 36,600 vph, has a power reserve of 50 hours.

The rich, dark blue dial has the day and month displayed in a rectangular window at 3 o’clock. Directly below this display, in contrasting bright orange, is Russell Westbrook’s signature and a silhouette of him in action on the basketball court. The date appears in a window at 6 o’clock, with the subdial for the 60-minute chronograph counter right above it; the running seconds are on a subdial at 9 o’clock. The orange of Westbrook’s signature is echoed in several of the watch’s other details, including the center-mounted, satin-brushed chronograph seconds hand, the tips of the two subdial hands, and the top stitching and inner rubber lining of the dial-matching blue alligator strap.

Like other Zenith Pilot watches, the Zenith Pilot Type 20 Annual Calendar Tribute to Russell Westbrook has a massive, 48-mm case in stainless steel with an engraved medallion on the caseback; in this limited edition, the medallion bears an etched silhouette of Westbrook in action, along with his signature. A plate affixed to the side of the case, inscribed with “Limited Edition: RW-X/5,” identifies it as a rare, collectible timepiece. The case is water-resistant to 100 meters and features the Pilot collection’s hallmark oversized crown and a domed sapphire crystal, glareproofed on both sides. The vintage-style hour and minute hands, as well as the large, Arabic hour numerals, are coated in Super-LumiNova for enhanced nighttime legibility. The Zenith Pilot Type 20 Annual Calendar Tribute to Russell Westbrook (price: $11,900) was launched, and Westbrook announced as Zenith’s newest “brand ambassador,” at an exclusive event at Westime, Zenith’s distributor in Los Angeles.

  1. I imagine he bought all 5 for himself…did not even have to make it to half-time of a single game to have them covered…..

  2. I really like the look of the watch, and would consider buying it. What discourages me is Westbrook’s image and signature on the dial. I wouldn’t want anyone’s name on the dial of my watch.
