Spanish star and master of the clay courts Rafael Nadal not only dons a Richard Mille watch when he hoists the championship trophy; he also, somewhat famously, wears one while he plays. The Swiss brand has created several personalized watches for Nadal, the most recent being the RM 27-01 Rafael Nadal, a limited edition of 50 pieces with a manual-wind tourbillon movement that has a grade 5 titanium baseplate and aluminum-lithium bridges. The case is made of an impact-resistant anthracite polymer with carbon nanotubes.
Russia’s Maria Sharapova completed a career Grand Slam in 2012 when she won that year’s French Open, and won the clay court tournament again this year, her fifth Grand Slam title overall. She has been an ambassador for Swiss sports-watch specialist TAG Heuer since 2007 and even contributed to the design of the recent TAG Heuer Formula 1 ladies’ model. According to the TAG Heuer website, Sharapova’s current favorite TAG watch is the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Steel and Ceramic Diamonds 37 mm, which has a steel case and ceramic bezel inlay surrounded by 60 diamonds, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and an easy-grip screw-down crown.
Novak Djokovic, the jovial Serbian who has won six Grand Slam titles, recently began a partnership with Seiko after several years as an ambassador for Audemars Piguet. Djokovic’s favorite Seiko watch is the new Seiko Astron GPS Solar Chronograph (read about the watch here), and Seiko has recently announced that it is releasing an all-new Novak Djokovic Limited Edition version of that watch, to coincide with the official start of its partnership with the athlete in September. The watch has an all-new caliber that includes not only the Seiko Astron’s innovative GPS technology that enables it to adjust to every time zone on Earth with the push of a button, but also a six-hour chronograph. The Seiko Astron GPS Solar Chronograph Novak Djokovic Limited Edition has a rose-gold-tone steel case and a black ceramic bezel; the caseback carries Djokovic’s signature and a serial number.
I wonder if you know what make and model watch is being worn by Jelena Djokovic this year. I first noticed it at WImbledon, and she’s wearing it currently at the US Open.My guess is that’s it’s a Cartier.
