Seiko Watchmaker Receives Top Award

Kazuo Takeoka

The government of Japan has just announced that Kazuo Takeoka has been awarded the “Medal with Yellow Ribbon” in recognition of his services to watchmaking. The award is given to individuals who, through their diligence and perseverance while engaging in their professional activities, become public role models.

Since joining Seiko Epson Corporation in 1975, Mr. Takeoka has won several watchmaking competitions, including the 23rd WorldSkills International Competition in 1977. He was the first winner from Japan. Today, he teaches Seiko’s younger watchmakers, handing down his skill and expertise to the next generation of master craftsmen.

Kazuo Takeoka is the fourth Seiko craftsmen to receive the Medal with Yellow Ribbon. He joins an exclusive group alongside Mamoru Sakurada (2005), Kenji Shiohara (2006) and Kiyoshi Terui (2007).
