In 1986, Luigi (Gino) Macaluso, a Swiss watch distributor in Italy, bought the rights to the name Daniel JeanRichard from Lemania, the Swiss movement manufacturer. Daniel JeanRichard was not a watch brand. It is the name of a 17th century Swiss watchmaker, who was an extremely important, if obscure, figure in the development of the Swiss watch industry.

2009 Swiss Watch Exports Down 22.3%

The headline on the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry’s report on December, 2009 exports reads “Recovery Confirmed.” This is perhaps a case of news that is less bad being viewed as good. Swiss watch exports for December were down only 7.2% compared with the same month in 2008, though for all of 2009, Swiss watch exports declined 22.3% to 13.2 billion Swiss francs.

All UTS Watches feature an in-house made case, fabricated on the latest CNC machinery in Munich, Germany. The UTS Adventure series are robust 46mm watches. The UTS Adventure watch features a unique case design secured by 6 hex screws and multi-industrial grade sealing, allowing for a 500M water resistance rating. The base movement is a Unitas 6498 with date complication.

Reactor Releases Top-Selling Gamma in Titanium

Southern California-based Reactor is introducing their top-selling Gamma watch in titanium. The original Gamma, introduced in 2008, quickly became the brand’s #1 seller. The new titanium version weighs 50% less than the stainless steel model yet features the same 45.5mm case and 300 meter depth rating.

Twenty years ago IWC debuted its Grande Complication, and at SIHH 2010, the 657-component movement made its first ever appearance in a Portuguese case. Dubbed the flagship of the Portuguese fleet, the automatic-winding 79091 caliber offers a chronograph that records up to 12 hours, perpetual calendar displaying the day, date, month and the complete year in four digits, moon phase accurate to 1 day in 122 years, minute repeater, and small hacking seconds.

At SIHH Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced a modern version of the Master Memovox International, originally created for the brand’s 125th anniversary in 1958 and also known as the Memovox Worldtimer. The alarm disk on this Memovox (”voice of memory”) features different cities and regions. This piece will be produced in two limited editions in 18-carat pink gold and in steel.

New Panerai Caliber P.999 Powers Radiomir 42 mm

At SIHH Officine Panerai presented the P.999, a new hand-wound mechanical movement entirely designed, developed and produced at the Neuchâtel manufacture. The new movement has a 12 ligne or 27.44 mm diameter, making it suitable for Panerai’s smaller timepieces like the Radiomir 42 mm.

Hublot Gold King Power Tourbillon GMT

The King Power Tourbillon GMT is Hublot’s first tourbillon with a dual time zone indicator. The red and blue GMT dial located at 1 o’clock displays a second time zone of the traveler’s choosing. A retrograde date is located at 9 o’clock. This piece also stands apart because its gold color is unique. The watch is crafted from a new gold alloy containing 5% platinum called “King Gold.” Only 28 examples will be produced.
