Out of this World: Meet Chanel’s Impressive Lion Astroclock

At Watches and Wonders 2023, Chanel invited visitors on a journey through space and time with a Capsule Collection under the motto “Interstellar”. One highlight is the Lion Astroclock, which brings the celestial topic to life both allegorically and through exquisite finishing details. Its production is limited to 5 pieces.

In the pedestal stands a magnificent lion, above which, in a glass dome, is the clock movement that leads directly to an astrolabe-style display of the hours and minutes. Inside, a diamond-embellished comet indicates the hours on a black globe, while the minutes are located on the outside on a rotating “orbit”.

It goes without saying that this monochrome creation reflects the unerring sense of style for which the maison, which has been manufacturing luxury watches since 1987, is famous. Every detail is finished to the highest standard, including the hand-wound caliber, which is visible in all its beauty. This is made exclusively for Chanel by the Swiss clock specialist L’Epée.

The sculpture of the lion, a reference to Coco Chanel’s zodiac sign, is faceted by hand. The white gold star, which indicates the hours displayed on a shiny black globe, is decorated with eleven brilliant-cut diamonds. The minute hand, representing the constellation of Leo and pointing to the outer orbit with the minute track, also creates sparkling accents with more diamonds in this stunning microcosm.

The table clock, which is made of made of brass coated with a black layer, measures 34.2cm by 20.6cm in diameter and has a height of 17.6cm.
