The Li Bingbing Bamboo Timepiece and Bracelet are made with renewable materials. The ladies’ Bamboo timepiece has a circular design, with a 35-mm case, wrapped in a bezel made from lightweight bamboo. To mark the partnership, the caseback is engraved with the words “Gucci and Li Bingbing for Responsible Life”. The other item in the collection is a bracelet designed to be paired with the watch, made of bamboo and white beads made from the Tagua nut. The Tagua nut, known as “vegetable ivory,” is a sustainable material used as a substitute for ivory, to avoid using ivory made from animal tusks.
In 2009, Li Bingbing established L.O.V.E, a charitable organization that promotes a responsibility towards life and the environment. L.O.V.E carries the tagline “Responsible Life” seen on the watch and bracelet. Because of her work, she has been recognized as the first Chinese Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). To officially launch the partnership, Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry will host a special evening event on January 17th, 2013, in the historical UNESCO heritage city of Lijiang, Yunnan province, China.
