Oris Tops Off Its New Aquis Date Model with Cherry Red Sunray Dial

Oris chose its popular Aquis collection as the stage for its first in-house automatic caliber last year, and the brand continues to expand this stylish, sporty dive-watch family with new and attention-grabbing iterations. The latest debuts this Spring, a version of the base Aquis Date model distinguished by a cherry-red sunray dial.

The watch’s multi-part stainless steel case measures 41.5 mm in diameter and boasts a professional-grade water resistance of 300 meters. Its unidirectional rotating bezel has a steel insert with a diving scale in relief, a style first found on the Aquis Date Relief model of 2019. The steel crown screws securely into the case and nestles into two shoulder-like crown guards. The breathtaking, scarlet-toned sunray dial, with its luminous-coated applied indices and hands, is protected beneath a sapphire crystal, domed on both sides and treated with nonreflective coating on the inside.

The cherry-red dial is framed by a relief dive-scale bezel.

The watch’s screwed-down caseback uses mineral glass for its viewing window, providing a glimpse of the movement, Oris Caliber 733 — which is not an fully in-house mechanism like Caliber 400 (or its offspring, Caliber 401) but a specially modified version of the reliable Sellita SW200. Beating at 28,800 vph and storing a power reserve of 38 hours, the automatic movement drives the hours, minutes and seconds on central hands, along with a quick-setting date at 6 o’clock and a stop-seconds function for easy time-setting synchronization. Mounted on a tapered, three-link steel bracelet with a folding clasp and divers’ extension, the Oris Aquis Date Cherry Red model will retail for $2,300 and hit retailers’ shelves on March 11, 2021.
