Black & White: Laco Launches Two New Automatic Pilot’s Chronographs

German watch manufacturer Laco revives its classic Kiel model, named after the Hanseatic city, in two new color variants. With numerous sophisticated details and a design inspired by historic pilot watches, the two debut models are part of a new series of chronographs.

For the reissue of the model, the challenge was to achieve a more elegant design, but at the same time maintain its high level of recognizability. The result is the new Kiel.2.

While the original (though now discontinued) Kiel featured a black dial, the new model comes in both and black and white dial iteration. The case of the two decidedly classic pilot chronographs with weekday and date indication has been reduced to a diameter of a contemporarily sized 43mm. With a likewise toned-down height of 14mm, the finely brushed and polished surface are a classy addition to any personal collection.

Anti-reflective sapphire crystals and Superluminova C3 on the dials provide optimal legibility by day and by night. The timepieces that are water-resistant to 100 meters are powered by an automatic chronograph movement, the Laco 500, which can be admired through a sapphire crystal back. The movement is based on the tried-and-tested Swiss caliber Sellita SW500 in elaboré quality and boasts a power reserve of at least 56 hours.

The new Kiel.2 from Laco retails for approximately $2,200 when converted to USD.

Looks like an IWC, doesn’t cost as much and seemingly LACO didn’t furnish watches to the Luftwaffe during WWII.
