Sponsored: G-SHOCK Expands Full Metal Collection with Ion-Plated GMWB5000RD-4

After its initial introduction in 2018 to much fanfare, G-SHOCK’s Full Metal collection has gone on to become one of the brand’s most distinguished and praised series in its modern portfolio. Three years since its debut, G-SHOCK is once again revisiting the series, and kicking off 2021 with the unveiling of the new, red ion plated GMWB5000RD-4.

For those familiar with previous iterations of the Full Metal series, like the popular GMWB5000D-1 and titanium-constructed GMWB5000TB, the overall style of the new watch will likely be familiar to you. Like those models, the GMWB5000RD-4 foremost features a distinctive square-shaped case along with a brick-pattern digital-display dial, with each taking inspiration from the iconic DW5000C design— the first-ever G-SHOCK from 1983. The watch, as its color and reference number imply, uses that original vintage-inspired GMWB5000 design as its base, adding a deep red ion plating to its brushed metal bezel and polished band as well as an inverted LCD display for its dial.

While the GMWB5000RD-4 offers an eye-catching combination of retro appeal, uncommon materials, and, of course, the unique deep red color that is the signature of this reference — its array of functions is particularly modern, showcasing plenty of the tech that fans of the brand love and have come to expect in recent years.

Among these features are a Super Illuminator LED light for reading the dial in low light conditions, the model’s renowned shock resistance, a 200-meter water resistance, and the popular Tough Solar technology that allows the watch to virtually never stop running so long as it is worn regularly and frequently exposed to light sources.

As for some of the GMWB5000RD-4’s other features, the model’s Bluetooth connectivity allows it to pair with a smartphone through the G-SHOCK app, allowing for two-way time sync functionality, while the G-SHOCK Multi-Band 6 Atomic Timekeeping technology embedded into the watch provides ultra-precise, to-the-second timekeeping via radio signals from up to six different transmitters worldwide. Other functional features include a 1/100-second stopwatch, an LED light for nighttime legibility, world time indications, four daily alarms, and a countdown timer.

The G-SHOCK GMWB5000RD-4 is priced at $600, and is available now at select high-end retailers and directly through G-SHOCK’s online store, here.
