America’s largest luxury watch event, WatchTime New York, is returning for its sixth year at Midtown Manhattan’s Gotham Hall on October 22-24. This year’s event is shaping up to be one our best yet, with more than 25 participating watch brands displaying their latest and greatest timepieces. Among these brands is Armin Strom, which is introducing the Tribute 1, a modern reinterpretation of a classic haute-horological dress watch.
Armin Strom, founded in 2006, has long positioned itself as the heir to a long tradition of manually wound dress watches, serving as a modern torchbearer for that luxury space and bringing classic designs and styles into a contemporary format. The Tribute 1 revisits this legacy, characterized by its classical proportions and exceptional hand finishing. It’s a timepiece that carries on historical codes while simultaneously introducing novel, modern aesthetic elements that also speak to its technical refinement.
The stainless steel case, classically sized at 38 mm in diameter and 9 mm thick, serves as the canvas for the watch, its geometric, brushed lugs, mirror-polished bezel, and top-right-side crown adding to its distinguished look. The case is secured to the wrist by means of a gray Alcantara calf-leather strap, whose softened, grained look matches the colorway found on the dial.
Underneath the front-facing sapphire crystal is a gray-tinted dial whose composition and color Armin Strom describes as “offset black gold.” The dial is made up of three primary components, with a smaller subdial for the time display resting upon a grained outer section and a large hand-finished barrel on display toward the bottom right sector and anchored by a fine-polished, solid white-gold bridge.
The movement that powers the Tribute 1, Armin Strom’s manufacture Caliber AMW21 is visible through a sapphire exhibition caseback . The hand-wound movement features a flat hairspring, beats at a frequency of 3.5 Hz (or 25,200 vph), and hosts an impressive power reserve of 100 hours. The caliber is adorned with côtes de Genève, gleaming, polished jewel sinks, and a mainplate stylized with a circular graining. The balance cock and the stepped escape-wheel cock deliver more three-dimensional allure, while their edges are hand-beveled to convey an overall sense of luxury.
The Armin Strom Tribute 1 is limited to 25 total editions, with pricing set at CHF 13,900 or about $15,200. The new watch will be available for an up-close, hands-on experience at WatchTime New York 2021.
