Few watch brands in the sub-$1,000 price range cause a stir among collectors quite like Casio’s G-Shock. With watches like the professionally targeted GravityMaster, the super-sturdy Mudmaster, and, most recently, the red-ion-plated Full Metal watch, the Japanese producer is often in the limelight for its affordable, eye catching, and highly utilitarian timepieces. The built-tough G-Shock brand continues the trend with the latest additions to its catalog, collectively dubbed the Transparent Pack.
The pack, made up of three models in semi-transparent gray cases and bracelets, and three in semi-transparent white ensembles, represents a novel take on some of G-Shock’s most popular designs — the GA2000, GA900, and GA110 in the Transparent Gray series and the DW5600, GA700, and GA2100 in the Transparent White trio.
Each of the new watches within the Transparent Pack is constructed in an overall similar manner, each using semi-transparent resin parts over a central inner case, creating eye-catching, avant-garde variations on some classic G-Shock silhouettes.
In the Transparent White series, the new DW5600SKE-7 features the brand’s iconic square case as well as an EL backlight for enhanced readability. The other two pieces in the series includes the GA700SKE-7A, which comes standard with a front-button design, and the GA2100SKE-7A, which features a trendy octagonal bezel; both of these models include a Super LED light instead of an EL for their backlights.
The Transparent Gray series offers a much darker aesthetic on three newly applied base designs. Leading the group is the new GA2000SKE-8A, which upgrades its inner shell with a tough Carbon Carbon Core Guard Case and lights up its dial via a Super Illuminator Double LED light. The other two watches in the group are the GA900SKE-8A, which the brand highlights as featuring a prolonged 7-year battery, and the GA110SKE-8A which the brand signifies as holding superior magnetic resistance.
As is standard for most G-Shocks released by the brands in recent years, each of the new models feature a superior shock resistance, 200 meters of water resistance, backlighting on the dial, daily alarm(s), a stopwatch, countdown timer, fully automatic calendar, and a world time function. Most of the watches also feature both analog and digital time displays, the only exception being the most classic of the designs, the square DW5600SKE-7.
The gray GA2000SKE-8A, GA900SKE-8A, and GA110SKE-8A references are priced at $130, while the white DW5600SKE-7, GA2100SKE-7A and GA700SKE-7A watches retail for $110. Each of the new timepieces within the Transparent Pack are available now via select G-Shock retailers, the G-Shock Soho Store, and via G-Shock’s online store.
