The watch, of which only 30 pieces will be made, and on sale exclusively in Richard Mille boutiques and authorized retailers in North and South America, is distinguished by its bright orange upper flange, crown protector and hands, which contrast with the black nanotube carbon case. On the dial, the numerals and date aperture are white.
The RM 030’s automatic movement is Richard Mille’s Caliber RMAR1, introduced in the original, unlimited RM 030 model in 2011, whose signature feature is an innovative “declutchable” rotor. In this system, the winding barrel automatically disconnects from the rotor’s winding mechanism at the moment that the mainspring is fully wound. The declutching mechanism is also linked to the power-reserve indicator, which offers greater control; the result is that the movement and the oscillator can work with the most ideal ratio of constant torque to power, which improves timekeeping accuracy.
Other notable features of Richard Mille Caliber RMAR1, which carries a power reserve of 55 hours in two barrels and has a frequency of 28,800 vph, include a free-sprung balance with variable inertia; baseplate, bridges, balance cock and torque-limiting crown made of titanium; PVD-coated barrel bridges and sapphire-blasted and hand-drawn surfaces.
The RM 030 Americas Limited Edition will retail for $135,000. (Click on the photos for larger images.)
