Nomos Glashütte has made its first appearance at the all-virtual Watches & Wonders watch salon, showcasing new timepieces in three of its Bauhaus-influenced collections. The releases — which include updated colorways and size expansions in Nomos’ Tangente, Metro, and Club Campus lines — come on the heels of a relatively quiet (for obvious reasons) 2020 for the German brand. Among that year’s highlights were pieces celebrating Ludwig Van Beethoven 250th birthday, as well as commemorative models to honor 175 years of watchmaking in Glashütte, and a few other, smaller launches.
Tangente
Leading the schedule are two additions to the brand’s popular Tangente line, the Tangente Neomatik 41 and Tangente 38 for Doctors Without Borders, the former coming with a new, midnight-blue colorway, and the latter being Nomos’s latest model released in partnership with the NGO, and which consequently celebrates 50 years since its founding.
The Neomatik 41 in midnight blue is the latest refresh to the Tangente Neomatik 41 design since its last update in 2018. While design-wise and mechanically essentially the same as the 2018 version, the new midnight blue version expands the existing series, which includes white-silver-dial and black-dial editions. The midnight blue version also uses a new colorful accent for its unique, patented analog date ring, with bright luminous green showcasing the passing days.
The Tangente Neomatik 41’s slim, 41-mm steel case has geometric, super-thin lugs, a small tight crown, and polished finishing throughout. On its dark blue dial are white-accented numerals and markers, white stick hands for the hour and minute, and an indented subdial at the 6 o’clock position to showcase the running seconds. Powering the model is the Nomos Caliber DUW 6101, which is a beautifully-finished in-house automatic movement, holding a 42-hour power reserve and integrating the signature analog date funtion.
The Tangente 38 for Doctors Without Borders (whose official name is in the organization’s native French, Tangente 38 – 50 ans Médecins Sans Frontières) continues the collaboration between Nomos and the Ärzte ohne Grenzen, the Doctors Without Borders affiliate in Germany, established in 2012. Limited-edition watches crafted from this partnership raise funds for global aid, and usually feature a simple white dial with a signature red accent, as in the 2016 version as well as this latest model.
Metro
Alongside the Tangente releases is one update to the modern-look Nomos Metro line, the new Metro Neomatik 41. This one represents the only true design update among Nomos’s Watches & Wonders releases, with the steel 41-mm watch now containing the aforementioned Caliber DUW 6101, and as a result introducing the familiar analog date ring to the Metro line.
Outside of the novel use of a new movement within the watch, the Metro Neomatik 41 upholds previous established design elements of the Metro collection, including its radial-style minute ring, its subdued and variously sized dots for each of the hour positions, a clean 6 o’clock subdial for the running seconds, and “quill-tip” hands for the hour and minute.
Club Campus
Nomos rounds out its Watches and Wonders 2021 releases with four additions to its entry-level Club Campus collection. The additions include two new colorways, predominantly in orange and gray, in two new sizes, either 36-mm or 38-mm in diameter.
Each of the Club Campus models features the overall same silhouette and design, differing substantially only in their case size and color accents For example, the Club Campus Absolute Gray 36 is inspired by “the atmosphere in the many testing hours of video lessons, while the 38-mm version is accented with an additional dash of purpose to symbolize “daybreak,” and better times soon to come. As for the orange editions, the both the 36-mm and 38-mm versions feature the same colorway, sans any variations in accent colors, the bright warm hue representing “new beginnings, the rising of the sun, the future,” according to the brand.
The simple, slim, polished case of the Club Campus sits lightly on the wrist, while a simple printed dial with a 6 o’clock subdial for the running seconds helps showcase the time in a straightforward, somewhat playful manner. Powering each model is the Nomos Caliber Alpha, which is the brand’s (and its hometown of Glashütte’s) most-produced in-house caliber, as well as one capable of a 43-hour power reserve.
Pricing and Availability
All of the new Nomos releases are available now via authorized boutiques and directly through the company. The Tangente Neomatik 41 in midnight blue is marked at $4,100 on a cordovan strap, and $4,080 on a steel bracelet, while the Tangente 38 for Doctors Without Borders is limited to 2,021 editions and priced at $2,030 on a textile strap and $2,070 on steel. The Metro Neomatik 41 is priced at $4,660, exclusively on a textile strap, and the new Club Campus is available for $1,500, for both colorways at 36-mm, and for $1,650 for each 38-mm version.
