Sponsored: Revisiting the Moonphase Complication, Meet the CODE41 Moon INCEPTION

Embarking on its next chapter in mechanical creativity, watchmaker CODE41 presents its latest timepiece in the new Moon INCEPTION. Presented as a fresh take on the revered moonphase complication— a mechanical function which has long captivated the attention of laypeople and enthusiasts, alike— the watch emerges as a product of Founder Claudio D’Amore, his team, and the CODE41 community.

CODE41, today best known for its eight-year legacy of bringing some of the most exclusive and fascinating mechanical functions to the wider market, ventures into a new realm with the Moon INCEPTION. With the timepiece paying homage to the timeless elegance and poetic beauty of the lunar cycle, the exclusive design brings together a sense of classicism, modernity, and poetry in a single cohesive mechanical object.

The Moon INCEPTION’s design is distinct in its horological artistry, nodding to the signatures of the young brand. Featuring a 41.5mm by 11.2mm case in 316L steel, the faceted, cushion-style shape sits in-line with the brand’s other silhouettes, with a refined mix of polished and brushed finishing adding to its appeal and a 100m water resistance ensuring its durability.

The dial of the timepiece is a theatrical display of shapes, colors, and textures, with a grained background that mirrors the moon’s surface and intertwined rings that mimic lunar craters. The moon and date indicators intertwine to form a figure 8 shape, symbolizing infinity, authenticity, and commitment. A retro-classical touch is added by the convex sapphire crystal, culminating in a design where horological enchantment is at its peak.

Powering the watch, the functionality of the Moon INCEPTION is centered around the C41-MP movement. This Swiss-engineered mechanism— based upon a robust and reliable Sellita architecture— has been uniquely modified by CODE41. Swiss watchmakers AJS have been enlisted to create one of the most lifelike moon disks and an exclusive oscillating weight for this movement. For those who seek unparalleled precision, the option of COSC certification is available for the caliber, ensuring an improved daily precision of -4/+6 seconds.

The Moon INCEPTION by CODE41 is more than a watch; it’s a statement of craftsmanship and innovation, and the latest example of collaborative ingenuity and corporate transparency by the brand. Pre-orders commence on January 25, 2024, to coincide with the first full moon of the year, and will last for a full lunar cycle until February 23, 2024. Prices for the new model begin from CHF 3,295, or about $3,800 at the time of writing.

Nice write-up! The elegance of the writer’s syntax, diction, and sentence structure exceeds that of the watch under review.

I would expect that for this price, a moon watch of your caliber would at least have LUMED hands, no? Without that, it’s a deal breaker.
