With WatchTime New York 2022 less than 10 days away, we are in the final moments of highlighting some of the most exceptional timepieces that will be on display at the event. Taking place from October 21 to 23, WatchTime New York is a three-day collector’s event dedicated to showcasing the most sought-after watch releases from the past year.
Swiss watchmaker Blancpain is joining more than 30 participating watch brands at Midtown Manhattan’s Gotham Hall with its newest variants of the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph. The two new models, taking shape in red gold and grade 23 titanium, are the first members of the Bathyscaphe line to both feature these materials and include a flyback chronograph complication.
The case size of both new models is consistent with the rest of the collection at 43mm. In actuality, many of its predecessors use a 43.6mm case, yet the slight difference is effectively negligible when it comes to how the watch wears on the wrist. As previously mentioned, the case options come in red gold and grade 23 titanium, each framed by a unidirectional rotating bezel with a ceramic inlay. Notably, grade 23 titanium contains less oxygen than standard watchmaking titanium, therefore improving the material’s resistance to breakage and corrosion.
Whether housed in red gold or titanium, the dial features a sunburst pattern throughout and a snailed motif on the chronograph counters. For the red gold version, Blancpain opts for a bold blue dial with a blue inlay on the bezel sporting a glossy finish and Ceragold time scale. The black dial of the titanium-clad model is completed by an anthracite, satin-brushed bezel inlay with a Liquidmetal scale.
Inside the watch, both models are powered by the in-house Blancpain Caliber F385. The movement draws upon Blancpain’s refined vertical clutch design that eliminates the problem of the chronograph seconds hand making sudden, abrupt jumps by engaging the mechanism smoothly instead. The geometry and lightness within the watch ensure high performance of the new watch, as well as those that have come before it in the line of Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronographs.
The Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph is available now, with pricing for the red gold edition marked at 30,910 EUR (approximately $29,989 USD) and for the titanium model starting at 15,510 EUR (approximately $15,048 USD)
