Blancpain Presents Two New Variants of the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet

First created in 1956 and reintroduced in 2013 as a tribute to the 60th anniversary of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, the Bathyscape is a diver’s watch that is meant to accommodate adventures both under water and on dry land. Today we look at recent release as part of that series in one of the brand’s latest additions to its catalogue in the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet.

As its name tells us, the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet offers a full calendar, with the the indication of the weekday and month as well as the date. While the first two are displayed through windows, the latter is executed as a classic pointer date. In addition, there is also a moon phase indication, that, in true Blancpain fashion displays the Earth’s satellite as a face and with an entourage of tiny stars. Notably, after the quartz crisis Blancpain was crucial in bringing back the poetic complication to the watch dials.

Measuring 43 mm in diameter and water-resistant to 30 bar, the new Bathyscaphe Quantième Complet is available in two satin-brushed versions with well-marked contours: one in red gold and the other in grade 23 titanium. Both are driven by the self-winding manufacture caliber 6654.P self-winding that amasses a power reserve of 72 hours and features a secured date mechanism.

The red gold model is paired with a sunburst blue-gradient dial. The gold hour markers, hands and moon match the case color and the dial is framed by a unidirectional rotating bezel with an intense blue ceramic inlay featuring a Ceragold time scale. The color scheme continues on the back of the timepiece which reveals a red gold oscillating weight. The watch is a available with a blue NATO or sailcloth and retails for $31,600.

The titanium model is distinguished by subtle shades of grey. Its sunburst anthracite dial is enhanced by gold hour-markers, rhodium-plated hands and moon. The likewise anthracite ceramic bezel is satin-brushed for a contemporary matte effect and bears a graduated Liquidmetal scale. The gold rotor of the titanium model has been given an anthracite NAC coating to lend it a sporty vibe. This model comes with a a titanium bracelet or a grey NATO or sailcloth strap. Prices start at $15,800.
