Chinese Watch Manufacturer Memorigin Releases “Man of Steel” Tourbillon

memoriginsuperman150Chinese watchmaker Memorigin has teamed up with Warner Bros. to create a tourbillon inspired by the latest Superman movie, “Man of Steel.” The watch is a limited edition of 130 pieces, released to coincide with the launch of the new film.

The watch borrows from design elements seen in the movie. The tonneau-shaped case, measuring 39x41mm, features a skeletonized dial resembling the armor worn by Jor-El (Superman’s father) in the film. The iconic “S” symbol is, of course, represented on the dial, below the 12 o’clock position, while the logos of two of the film’s villains are hidden in the bottom corners of the dial. The “S” logo can also be seen on the crown and bracelet buckle. Superman’s red and blue color scheme can be seen on the hour markes, with eleven blue sapphires and one red ruby (at the 12 o’clock position).

The watch is powered by a tourbillon movement with a 60-hour power reserve.

OK – Who sells it, so I can actually buy one ? Can’t find a retailer that sells this watch. A little help, please.

  4. I saw this today in person at The Venetian in Macau. It’s a very nice time piece. The price was at 38,800 hkd(about 5K US dollars). I asked.

  5. Jason Francisco

The price is listed as HKD 36,800, which would be approximately USD $4750.

Their website has a Dark Night Rises edition @ $3,836.00, so
this one may retail in that realm, +/-.

I think there is two negative aspects related to the design of thiis watch.
Firstly, it is difficult to associate the serpentine shape in the dial with the armor used by Superman´s father, Jor-El. Very few people will be able to remember about the armor.

The hour marks are also not appropriate, in my opinion. I suggest sharp indices in steel, which are more suitable with the hands, like that used in Corum´s Golden Bridge model (ref 113.151.85).
