The Santa Maria, the largest of Columbus’s trio of ships that made the trip across the Atlantic Ocean to the New World, is depicted in elegantly rendered cloisonné on the finely enamelled dial. The legendary ship, with its flag waving as if in an ocean wind, stands out from the greenish blue of the ocean waves and the dark blue of the sky. More than 5o hours of intricate work by artisans and more than 26 baking processes were needed to create each dial.
The Classico Limited Edition Santa Maria is powered by Ulysse Nardin’s UN 815 movement, which has been certified by COSC as a chronometer and has a power reserve of 42 hours. There will be only 30 pieces in white gold, for $44,500 and 30 pieces in rose gold, for $40,900. (Click the photos for larger images.)
