Debuting at WatchTime New York: Porsche Design 1919 DateTimer Series 1

Have you secured your ticket yet for America’s luxury watch show? WatchTime New York, taking place October 23-24 at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall, now boasts more than 20 watch brands displaying their new timepieces for 2015 (Click here for event details and to purchase tickets). Among the most recently signed brands is Porsche Design, which will introduce its new 1919 Datetimer Series 1 collection.

The successful revamp of the Porsche Design collection — which began in earnest with the launch of the Chronotimer collection earlier this year — continues with the Porsche Design 1919 Collection, whose design is heavily influenced by the Bauhaus art-and-design movement that had a profound effect on company founder Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. The flagship of the new collection, the 1919 Datetimer Series 1, features a 42-mm titanium case with a glass bead-blasted finish. The unique lugs, with their eye-catching gap, provide a smooth, form-locking transition between the case and the bracelet or strap and add to the watch’s overall lightness. The convex, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal boasts a seven-layer nonreflective treatment. The screw-down crown aids in the case’s 100-meter water resistance.

A Bauhaus minimalism is also evident in the stark, black dial, which conveys only the most essential information — the hours, minutes and central seconds, and the date in a window at 4 o’clock. The movement is the Swiss-made Sellita’s SW 200 automatic caliber, which Porsche design has enhanced with its customized “Porsche Design Icon” rotor. It has a frequency of 28,800 vph, 26 jewels, and a power reserve of 38 hours.

The Porsche Design 1919 Datetimer Series 1 — developed at Porsche Design’s Solothurn, Switzerland-based atelier, in collaboration with the team at the Porsche Design Studio in Austria — is available in four executions, All Black (pictured above), with black titanium carbide coating on the case and bracelet; Titanium & Rubber (with brushed titanium case and LaserFlex textured rubber strap); Black & Rubber (black carbide-coated case and LaserFlex strap); and All Titanium (pictured below), with brushed titanium case and bracelet. All the watches have steel-and-titanium folding clasps.
