Showing at WatchTime New York 2015: Pierre DeRoche TNT Royal Retro GMT 1/2 Hour

WatchTime New York, America’s Luxury Watch Show, takes place October 23-24 at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall, and tickets are going fast. (Click here for event details and to purchase tickets). The latest watch sponsor to join the more than 20 watch brands displaying new timepieces at the show is boutique Swiss brand Pierre DeRoche, which will be showing its innovative TNT Royal Retro GMT 1/2 Hour.

What makes this version of the Pierre DeRoche TNT Royal Retro special is its GMT (second time zone) indicator, which is adjustable to the nearest half-hour by using the crown rather than a standard corrector button, a feature that is exceedingly rare in the watch world. Moreover, the GMT function — in which the GMT hours and minutes hands advance in 30-minute increments to ensure precise half-hours — can be operated without stopping the main movement. The GMT display appears on a subdial at 6 o’clock and includes a third indicator that uses a small red arrow-hand to indicate daytime (white section) or nighttime (black section) in the chosen second time zone.

The rest of the TNT Royal Retro’s stylish openworked dial is devoted to the central hours and minutes indication and four retrograde seconds hands ticking away the minutes in increments of 10 seconds. (Two of the six retrograde hands usually found in this collection’s watches — a hallmark of the Pierre DeRoche brand — are replaced on this model by the GMT indicator subdial.)

(Trivia: brand co-founder Pierre DuBois is one of three DuBois brothers, the other two of whom run the DuBois-Depraz movement manufacturer in Switzerland’s Vallee de Joux.) It has 48 jewels, a decorated and engraved winding rotor, central bridge, four chamfered and satin-finished seconds bridges, a minute wheel with Pierre DeRoche logo, hands affixed by a transversal pin, four gear-driven retrograde seconds hands with strip-spring return.

The large, 47.5-mm-diameter case has a black PVD-coated titanium middle and a bezel, lugs, crown-guard, and screw-lock crown in stainless steel. The sapphire crystal (one in the front, one in the back) has nonreflective coating on both sides. The case is water-resistant to 100 meters and is secured on an alligator leather strap with a safety folding clasp.
