Nine Cities, One Watch: Bulgari Launches Bulgari Bulgari Cities Special Edition 2020

Recently, Italian jeweler and watchmaking maison Bulgari unveiled the latest update to its collections with the new Bulgari Bulgari Cities Special Edition 2020. The new collection includes nine watches, each with the same matte-black-and-rose-gold base “Bulgari Bulgari” design, but distinguished from the others by the engraved name of one of nine world cities that have previously hosted the brand in some fashion.

The spirit of the new release is to “pay homage to the cosmopolitan spirit” of both the Bulgari Bulgari designs and the specific cities, so each model not only features a city’s name but also comes with a set of twelve unique art prints honoring and showcasing the cultural vigor of that city’s urban area. Each of these prints was developed by one of nine talented young artists who were invited to share their own vision of those cities and their connection to the Bulgari brand.

The new models’ 41-mm steel cases are treated with a black DLC for a matte appearance. The overall aesthetic should be mostly familiar to fans of the collection. The case uses slim, straight lugs, a rose-gold crown, and a bezel engraved with “Bvlgari” on the top and the specific city’s name on the bottom: choices are Rome, Tokyo, Dubai, Paris, London, Ibiza, Milan, Mexico City, and New York. Moving to the matte black lacquered dial, we find a minimalist design, with applied rose-gold indices marking most hours and enlarged Arabic numerals at only the 12 and 6 o’clock positions — the traditional layout found in the Bulgari Bulgari collection. At 3 o’clock is a subtle black date indicator, while sweeping over the face are long, sword-style hour and minute hands with a thin, matching rose-gold colored hand for the seconds.

The Bulgari City Edition models are powered by the Bulgari Calibre BVL 191, an in-house automatic caliber whose attributes include a 42-hour power reserve. The new watches each come attached to a brown calf leather strap with an ardillon buckle, along with an additional black rubber strap to accompany it, all delivered within a black grained leather pouch.

The Bulgari Bulgari Cities Special Edition 2020 watches are available now directly through Bulgari for $4,350. To inquire about the watches and to learn more on the Cities Special Edition 2020 project, you can visit the brand’s website, here.
