H. Moser & Cie. Releases Special Edition Pioneer Centre Seconds Rotating Bezel C.02 For Collective Horology

H. Moser & Cie. has developed a reputation for its distinct style of watchmaking and appealingly modern designs. This past week, the Schaffhausen-based brand once again showcased its singular style with the release of the Special Edition Pioneer Centre Seconds Rotating Bezel C.02 For Collective Horology, a new steel sports watch produced in partnership with the Silicon Valley-founded watch collectors’ group, Collective Horology. The new model is an interesting riff on the base Pioneer Centre Seconds design released earlier this year, the latest addition to Moser’s growing sports-focused Pioneer collection.

The watch’s 42.8-mm x 10.6-mm steel case features slightly rounded edges and alternating brushed and polished finishing throughout. The case itself looks rather simple from the front view, but from the sides reveals its elevated beveling, which on the right side also includes a fluted screw-down crown. Surrounding the dial is the watch’s namesake feature, the black, bidirectional 12-hour “traveler’s” bezel, with is designed to assist wearers in determining a second time zone.

Underneath the domed sapphire crystal is the green fumé dial that the brand is possibly best known for, its colors transitioning from a dark black to somewhat lighter green as your eyes move from the edge to the center of the face. Throughout the dial, for the hands and indices, Moser has used a new luminous material called Globolight, which is a ceramic-based substance containing Super-LumiNova.

On the flange, we find a curved black ring dotted with white markers for the hours, which correspond to printed white hour markers on the main dial. A set of syringe-style hour and minute hands indicates the time. Rounding out the minimalistic dial are the simple white seconds pointer, and the cursive white print of the H. Moser & Cie. logo below 12 o’clock.

Inside the 120-meter water resistant case is the automatic HMC 200 caliber, a movement that stores a three-day power reserve, whose finished facets and skeletonized rotor are visible behind a sapphire caseback. The model will come standard on a distressed leather strap, along with an additional brushed-finish H-link steel bracelet.

The new Special Edition Pioneer Centre Seconds Rotating Bezel C.02 For Collective Horology will be available exclusively to members of Collective Horology, and as a result will be produced in limited quantities. As of now, Moser has set the price of this special-edition model at $15,900.

Beautiful in its simplicity. 42.8 mm is not a large diameter for a watch case, but it looks bigger than 42.8 mm on the model. Judging from the way the watch looks on the model, I’d say the size of the watch is just right. However, without that perspective, I’d consider 42.8 too small for my tastes. Something seems awry.
