Nomos Partners with Ace Jewelers for Tangente 38 Amsterdam Limited Edition

Bauhaus-inspired German watchmaker Nomos Glashütte has announced a new limited edition of its Tangente 38 timepiece, produced in collaboration with the Netherlands’ Ace Jewelers. The new model, dubbed the Tangente 38 Amsterdam, is an homage to the city of Amsterdam, where Ace Jewelers is located. It follows the same design codes as the original Tangente 38, while debuting an exclusive black colorway on the dial, and will be limited to only 45 editions.

Taking a closer look at the new Tangente Amsterdam, we find it uses a 37.5-mm polished steel case, one quite low on the wrist at only 6.7 mm thick. On its side is a simple push/pull crown, while thin, angular lugs connect the watch to the smooth, black Horween Shell Cordovan strap. Like all watches in the Tangente collection, this model uses a triple-layered construction for its case, including the caseback, center, and smooth “bezel-less” bezel piece.

Moving beneath the sapphire crystal, the dial uses a familiar Bauhaus design, similar to that seen on previous Tangente watches (two models pictured below), though here in the unique “Amsterdam” colorway. On its outer edge is a white minute track accented with black marks, while the rest of the dial, in contrast, features a matte black color with white accents. Each of the hour markers is printed in a thin font, alternating between Arabic numerals and tick marks, while an engine-turned subdial is located at the 6 o’clock position with a red pointer indicating the running seconds. Passing over the dial are two thin baton hands for the hour and minute, while a subtle, printed Nomos Glashütte logo appears at the top.

Inside the Tangente 38 Amsterdam is the Nomos caliber Alpha, an in-house, hand-wound mechanism produced by the Saxon watchmaker and capable of a 43-hour power reserve. The movement is visible via a specially engraved sapphire caseback, engraved with the watch’s limited-edition number.

The Tangente 38 Amsterdam is the first black-dialed model in the Tangente 38 line, and is a showcase for the interesting range of variations that are possible in Nomos’s minimalist designs. The new watch will be priced the same as previous Tangente 38 models, albeit in this case retailing exclusively through Ace Jewelers for 1,840 Euros or about $2,030.
