Introducing the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer With a Blue Dial

Seiko announced the release of a new Prospex Speedtimer, adding the watch into serial production following the success of a limited edition iteration. The Limited Edition Prospex Speedtimer was launched as a tribute to the World Athletic Championships which took place in Eugene, Oregon, in July 2022. The newly released follow-up model is a Prospex Speedtimer with a blue dial.

Taking inspiration from the original Speedtimer that premiered in 1969, the newcomer boasts a magnificent blue dial with two silver-toned chronograph counters, a date indication at 6 o’clock, red chronograph hands, and a tachymeter scale on the flange. The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer features a steel case with a diameter of 42.5mm and is capable of water resistance up to 100 meters.

The blue-dial edition is powered by the Caliber 8R46, which incorporates both vertical clutch and column wheel mechanisms, keeping consistent with the 1969 original. While the vertical clutch eliminates any shuddering or jumping of the hands and enhances measurement accuracy, the column wheel ensures precise control of the chronograph operation.

The movement also incorporates Seiko’s three-pointed hammer which ensures that, when the reset pusher is depressed, the hands return to zero instantly and in perfect synchronization. The escapement is lightweight and strong, thanks to the use of Seiko’s MEMS technology which enhances the precision of the watch.

The new Seiko Prospex Speedtimer blue dial will be available at select retail locations starting in September of 2022 retailing for $3,200.
