Grand Seiko Drops Two Limited Hi-Beat Watches to Mark 25th Anniversary of the Caliber 9S

To honor the 25th anniversary of the Caliber 9S, first introduced in 1998 and since then continuously evolved, Grand Seiko created two limited editions that encompass the beautiful scenery of the brand’s home in the Iwate Prefecture in Japan. Both executions of the Grand Seiko Heritage Collection Caliber 9S 25th Anniversary Limited Edition feature magnificent dials that are inspired by the skies above Mount Iwate.

The first one, with a silver backdrop, highlights the clouds that surround the peak of the mountain on some early morning hours. This debutante comes in a 37mm stainless steel case, which is watertight to 100 meters and resists magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/m, and is powered by self-winding Caliber 9S85. A high-frequency movement which beats with 36,000 vibrations per hour, it boasts an accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day and a power reserve of 55 hours. Its oscillating weight, visible through the exhibition case back, features a specifically created blue color reminiscent of the sky above Mount Iwate.

The reference SBGH311 is now available at the brand’s online boutique and will hit the stores of select retail partners in February 2023. Pricing is marked at $6,600.

The second commemorative piece is also limited to 1,200 pieces and sports a stainless steel case with the same proportions and characteristics. Its dial, however, is bright blue and enhanced by a sun-ray finish.

This newcomer is powered by self-winding Caliber 9S65, which has a mean daily rate of +5 to -3 seconds per day and offers a three-day power reserve. It has a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and is likewise equipped with a blued oscillating weight that can be admired through the sapphire case back.

The reference SBGR325 has a retail price of $5,300 and will be available in April 2023.
