Craftsmanship Meets Accuracy in Grand Seiko’s 44GS 55th Anniversary Limited Edition

Grand Seiko celebrates the 55th anniversary of the legendary 44GS design in a watch inspired by the sea of clouds in Shinshu. When introduced in 1967, the 44GS first was the first timepiece that incorporated a design quality later known as the “Grand Seiko Style.” This set of nine principles gave Grand Seiko its distinctive look and has inspired every new creation until today.

Part of the Heritage Collection, the 44GS 55th Anniversary Limited Edition is driven by a high-end quartz movement with an accuracy of +5 to -5 seconds per year. Protected to magnetic influence up to 4,800 A/m, the caliber 9F85 ticks inside a stainless steel case which is water resistant to 100 meters. Its exhibition case back displays the fine finishing quality of the movement, which offers a time difference adjustment function, such as blued tempered screws.

As is typical for the Japanese luxury brand, it gets poetic when it comes to the dial. The surface of the light blue watch face has the texture of the sea of clouds that form around the mountains on some mornings in the Shinshu region where this and all Grand Seiko quartz watches are produced. The five-pointed star at the six o’clock position
symbolizes the watch’s high accuracy.

The Grand Seiko 44GS 55th Anniversary Limited Edition is limited to 2,000 pieces and scheduled to be in stores in July 2022 with a price tag of $3,800.

This piece is a standout.. In Australia this sold out in days… I was one of the lucky ones to pre-order the last one in Melbourne….
To me Grand Seiko is peerless at it’s price point and can easily shame many pieces from the Holy Trinity….
    They are truly special watches…
