In an exciting collaboration, Sylvain Pinaud and Massena LAB have joined forces to create a limited edition of the renowned French independent watchmaker’s monopusher chronograph which first secured the esteemed “Horological Revelation” Prize at the 2022 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). This exceptional timepiece, fully dubbed the Chronograph Monopoussoir Sylvain Pinaud x Massena LAB, is an exclusive edition limited to a mere ten pieces.
With its exquisite craftsmanship and unique design, the watch promises to captivate collectors and connoisseurs alike. The watch will be showcased Massena LAB at the upcoming WatchTIme New York 2023 event taking place this weekend from October 20 to 22 at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall.
Massena LAB creates, designs, and develops timepieces with renowned watchmakers. Founded by William Massena, a noted watch collector and industry expert, Massena LAB proposes ideas or concepts to manufactures that are unusual and beyond the offerings from their collection.
Having observed the Monopusher Chronograph firsthand, Massena approached Pinaud with a unique request: a personalized order with a modified case design. What initially began as an individual commission quickly evolved into a broader endeavor when Massena’s fellow enthusiasts within the collector circle also displayed keen interest in owning a comparable timepiece crafted by Pinaud. This initial spark of collaboration eventually blossomed into the creation of the Chronograph Monopoussoir Sylvain Pinaud x Massena LAB.
Meticulously handcrafted in the atelier of Sylvain Pinaud in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland, this timepiece emerges as a masterpiece of artisanal dedication. Its beating heart is an unnamed hand-wound movement, equipped with a fully integrated column-wheel chronograph, complete with a horizontal clutch. This mechanism is activated by a single pusher positioned within the crown, enabling seamless start, pause, and reset functions. Notably, the movement’s integrated chronograph complication, meticulously finished by the watchmaker himself, is revealed on the dial side, offering a captivating visual spectacle.
The dial, a collaborative creation by Comblémine SA— Kari Voutilainen’s dial manufacture— unites contemporary design with vintage maritime chronometer aesthetics. Encased within titanium, sapphire windows on the sides, as well as a sapphire caseback, unveil the precision and artistic craftsmanship that define each Sylvain Pinaud timepiece, inviting admiration from nearly every angle.
The Chronograph Monopoussoir Sylvain Pinaud x Massena LAB is available for viewing by appointment only. Production is limited to three pieces each year, with deliveries taking place over three years, and with a total of 10 editions slated to be made. Pricing is available upon request.
