Showing at WatchTime New York 2022: Seiko Prospex US Special Editions

WatchTime New York 2022 is four days away, with the iconic event making its seventh annual return to Midtown Manhattan’s Gotham Hall on October 21-23. The three-day horological event is dedicated to showcasing more than 30 participating watch brands and highlighting some of the most impressive novelties of the year. Japanese watchmaker Seiko is once more joining the event this year, with the brand unveiling its latest US-exclusives in a new trio of Prospex divers.

Unveiled this month and dubbed the Seiko Prospex US Special Editions, the three watches pay tribute to the brand’s pioneering advances in dive watch technology, spanning from the late 1960s and into the modern era. This includes in the their general design, their sporty silhouettes recalling the history of the brand, but further in their use of lightweight titanium as a case material, which Seiko was the first to do in a professional diver. A super-hard coating covers the metal, with the bold timepiece measuring 43.5mm by 13.25mm on the wrist and purpose built for hardy wear.  A uni-directional rotating bezel caps the case, with its subtle two-tone finish helping express the duality of light and dark within mysterious undersea worlds.

The special editions are available in three colorways, including in light-green, blue-gray, and blue-green, each evoking changing tones viewed by divers as their safety lights illuminate these deep-water caverns. The dials themselves are executed with a distinctive patterning recalling the natural formations and mineral deposits of undersea cave walls, with signature Seiko motifs seen atop in in applied hour markers and a matching handset each using a LumiBrite coating for low light visibility. A cyclops-magnified date window adds some daily utility at the 3 o’clock position, while an outer curved minute ring outlines the entire look.

Powering the new US exclusives is the Seiko caliber 6R35. The automatic mechanism features a power reserve of 70 hours, with a frequency of 21,600 vph. A solid case back protects the movement, with it further helping provide the dive-ready watch a 200m water resistance.

The new Seiko Prospex US Special Editions are available now exclusively for the American market, with pricing marked at $1,500.
