Laurent Ferrier Turns Evergreen at Watches and Wonders 2023

In its 2023 return to Watches and Wonders, Laurent Ferrier introduced an elegant duo of timepieces connected by a rich color motif. The Square Micro-Rotor Evergreen and the Classic Micro-Rotor Evergreen each assume an exterior shape independent from one another while their dials share a deep green dial hue. The design is straightforward, working to encapsulate the subdued nature of the brand’s modern-focused design. As the latest additions to the brand’s Micro-Rotor collection, this duo expresses its “Evergreen” motif both in its use of color as well as timeless-oriented aesthetics.

Separating each model from the other is the silhouette of its case, which for the Square Micro-Rotor Evergreen is, as its name indicates, evocative of a square. More accurately, the case features a familiar cushion shape, with its steel dimensions measuring 41mm by 41mm. The watch’s footprint is assertive on the wrist, made more elegant with its use of delicate curves and symmetry. For the Classic iteration, Laurent Ferrier opts for a 40mm 18-carat red gold case with an understated and refined appearance in comparison to its counterpart. Both cases have a height of 11.1mm and feature a ball-shaped winding crown, which lends itself to smooth handling and a delicate appearance. Each case also offers water resistance to 30 meters and features a large exhibition case back on its reverse.

Though the Square model has a more angular exterior, its bezel is round and therefore frames a round dial corresponding to that of the Classic model. The deep green dial has a vertical satin-brushed finish that gives it a subtle texture without sacrificing the delicate nature of the design. The dial layout is consistent between the two models with slim drop-shaped indices, Assegai-shaped hands, and a small seconds sub dial at 6 o’clock. The indices and hands are made from 18k white gold for the Square model and 18k red gold for the Classic model, each option complimenting the tone of its respective case.

Each timepiece is equipped with the Laurent Ferrier caliber FBN 229.01, a movement designed by the manufacture to integrate technological advancements into a classical mechanism. A determinant of the collection name, the self-winding movement is characterized by a unidirectional ratchet-type micro-rotor. It also has a silicon escapement with a double direct impulse to the balance wheel, which allows the balance to be restarted twice per oscillation. The design is intended to maximize energy efficiency and optimize the movement’s winding mechanism. As such, it offers a 72-hour power reserve.

The new Laurent Ferrier Evergreen watches are available now via the brand, with pricing for the Square Micro-Rotor Evergreen marked at 47,500 CHF (approximately $51,800 USD), and pricing for the Classic Micro-Rotor placed at 57,500 CHF (or about $62,700 USD).
