Monochrome Monday: Montblanc Meisterstück Heritage Gold Collection Debuts at SIHH 2015

Montblanc Meisterstuck Heritage Collection - GoldIn January 2014 Montblanc introduced an entirely new collection, called the Montblanc Meisterstück Heritage collection. This collection, with its classic design codes, is the first to incorporate everything that Montblanc as a watch brand has to offer — from very affordable and classically styled time-only, to the most affordable perpetual calendar on the market, to the Pulsograph with its stunning Villeret-made movement. Now, for SIHH 2015, the brand adds the Montblanc Meisterstück Heritage Gold collection, with full gold watches starting just north of €6k.

During the exclusive Geneva watch fair in January, attendees were amazed — some even shocked — by the price of the Montblanc Meisterstück Heritage Perpetual Calendar. And even the Meisterstück Heritage Pulsograph is (relatively speaking) a bargain at €27k. Now Montblanc adds several 39-mm gold models to the Meisterstück Heritage collection and, once again, the prices of these new models immediately catch the attention.

It is not only the prices that are worth noting, of course. The design of the Meisterstück Heritage collection is one of timeless, classic beauty, and the new gold models measure a comfortable 39-mm in diameter and are only 9 mm in height. Inside ticks a mechanical movement – referred to as MB 24.17 – that is made by Sellita. A similar movement is also used in the IWC Ingenieur Automatic that we at Monochrome Watches reviewed for you last year. It’s a reliable, automatic-winding movement that delivers 42 hours of power reserve and comes with a date function.

The new models in gold share their design cues with the rest of the Meisterstück Heritage collection: long, faceted dauphine-shaped hour- and minute-hands, a beautiful sunburst dial featuring polished and faceted applied indices, and small dots for every minute, in line with the finest watchmaking traditions. The elegant case features a horizontal satin finishing on the middle piece, and the bezel and upward facing parts of the lugs are polished. The crown is embossed with the polished Montblanc emblem, standing out from the sand-blasted background.

The new Montblanc Meisterstück Heritage Date Automatic models are all made from 18k red gold. There are three new models; a classic version with a silver-white dial, a contemporary-chic version with a chocolate brown sunburst dial and a version with a silver-white dial and a bezel studded with 88 Top Wesselton diamonds. On this model, the indices are also decorated with diamonds.

All the new models come with a see-through caseback, with a sapphire crystal pane, that allows a view of the nicely finished movement.
