With this sporty, elegant chronograph available in four different versions, STOWA is not necessarily breaking new ground.
Walter Storz always regarded the brand founded in 1927 and named after him as a kind of generalist. Of course, the aforementioned chronographs were also part of the production range. One of them presented itself around 1968 in a “panda look” that was not common at that time.
The features of this equally robust and reliable Sellita SW510 include escapement coupling, cam control of the three functions start, stop and reset, unidirectional winding ball bearing rotor, four Hertz balance frequency, approximately 62 hours power reserve, balance wheel stop for setting the time to the second and window date at “6”. For use in the new STOWA “Tempora”, it receives a noble Geneva striped finish, a rhodium-plated surface and carefully blued screws. This design can be admired through the sapphire crystal viewing back of the 44 millimeter stainless steel case. Its water resistance reaches up to ten bar pressure.
On the front, double anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial, designed in the style of the former STOWA “Chrono.” The hour and minute hands also evoke a sense of the past. The openworked lugs are a particular highlight of the case. For the purpose of optimal ergonomics on the wrist, the eight-fold screwed-in case back floats when the watch is placed on a table. This functional piece of watchmaking art is not only spoiled for choice in terms of dial color, but also in terms of case finish. STOWA offers the version in pure 316L stainless steel with either a solid black or two-tone luminous dial. The latter is referred to as the inverted “panda look.”
You can choose either a three-row stainless steel link bracelet or a vintage-style calfskin strap, both offer a secure and comfortable fit on the wrist and include a safety folding clasp. Alternatively, there is a version with black, heavy-duty DLC coating. Its classic “panda look” dial is available in black or green. STOWA offers these two models with comfortable calfskin strap and safety folding clasp. No matter which of the four references you ultimately choose: Each one draws from the long history of the STOWA brand but is technically, so to speak, firmly grounded in the present with both feet.
