Showing at WatchTime New York: Wempe Zeitmeister Sport Diver’s Chronograph Bronze

Wempe Glashütte will be presenting its new Zeitmeister Sports Diver’s Chronograph Bronze at the upcoming WatchTime New York event, held at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall on October 13-14 (click here for event details and to purchase tickets). The German brand has been producing seafaring ship clocks for more than a century, notably producing military dive watches in the 1960s, and this new watch (limited to 100 pieces) works to evoke this history in bronze through the popular Zeitmeister Sports Diver Chronograph design.

The choice of bronze, an allusion to a ship’s propellers and the high-quality ship’s bells on the decks of historical oceangoing steamships, is used throughout the watch — from its streamlined lugs and rotating bezel, to its modern chronograph pushers and screw-down crown. The large, 45-mm case is water-resistant to 300 meters (about 1,000 feet), is mounted on a brown alligator strap, and uses a screwed-in caseback made of titanium and bearing a high-relief engraving of the Glashütte observatory— where each Wempe Zeitmeister Diver’s Chronograph has to pass an official chronometer test.

On the watch’s deep brown dial is an outer minute ring with applied, rose-gold plated trapezoidal hour markers, rose-gold-plated hands, and a 3 o’clock date window. The dial uses a vertical chronograph configuration, with a 30-minute counter towards the top, running seconds at 9 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter toward the bottom, with an arrow-headed chronograph seconds hand passing over the watch’s face. Inside the watch is the automatic Caliber ETA 7750, slightly altered by Wempe with the addition of a brand-developed balance cock and fine adjustment mechanism; the movement is capable of a 48-hour power reserve. The new watch has been available since July 2017, and is currently offered at Wempe boutiques worldwide for €5,975 (or about $7,040).
