Arnold & Son Launches the Globetrotter in Precious Platinum

Arnold & Son is gearing up for Watches & Wonders, which takes place in the last week of March, by launching its Globetrotter in platinum. It is for the very first time the brand uses this precious metal to house its charismatic world timer.

With the Globetrotter, Arnold & Son reinvented the world timer, a classic complication with a three-dimensional appeal via the centrally mounted globe showing the northern hemisphere. This unique feature is secured by a large bridge, further emphasizing its unique character. This also gives Arnold & Son another opportunity to highlight its significant technical prowess as the bridge is not only crafted from 18-carat white gold but is also satin finished on the sides, with all its flat parts polished and with long chamfered edges.

Overall, Arnold & Son really takes advantage of every opportunity it has to showcase its capabilities. The globe itself features hand-painted oceans made of blue lacquer and powdered mother-of-pearl. The same goes for the shorelines, which also includes Super-LumiNova, resulting in a spectacular sight at night. The 24-hour ring is made of sapphire crystal and adds another layer to the three-dimensional composition. The dial itself, surrounding the globe, is made of mother-of-pearl that shows a blue hue that gets darker towards the edge. This emphasizes the globe even more. The hour markers are crafted out of 18-carat white gold as well and finished with Super-LumiNova, just as the tips of the hour and minute hands.

With a diameter of 45mm the Globetrotter is quite the statement, even more so in platinum. Not only does the beautiful hue of this exclusive material go very well with the blue of the dial and globe, but it is also its heft that lets you know that you are wearing something very precious. Arnold & Son continues this feeling on the back, where a sapphire crystal insert shows caliber A&S6022. It is a pleasing sight with a circular-grained main plate, chamfered bridges with Geneva stripping, and even beveled and mirror-polished screws. The oscillating weight is also a thing of beauty, crafted out of 22-carat white gold with ‘Clous de Paris’ guilloché decorations.

The only point of criticism could be that the power reserve is on the low side with just 45 hours. However, given the oversized globe that it also needs to move, this is like complaining that your Ferrari has a small gas tank. In the end, it also won’t make much of a difference, as the captivating beauty of the latest edition of the Arnold & Son Globetrotter will make it that you don’t want to take it off.

The Arnold & Son Globetrotter in platinum is limited to 28 pieces and priced at CHF 64,900 (tax included).
