Piaget’s headline introduction at this year’s SIHH watch fair in Geneva was a new collection of dress watches called Gouverneur. The Gouverneur models’ distinguishing feature is the shape of their cases and bezels: all have a round case and an oval dial opening. Each dial, in turn, has a circular chapter ring, creating a round, oval, round pattern from the dial to the outside of the case.

While I love Piaget’s style in many ways (especially their moonphase), calling these watches “Gouverneur” is so pretentious I wouldn’t be able to consider them no matter how attractive & well designed I think they are.
Maybe I’m totally creating a connection to a British pronunciation of “governor,” which in itself it often used to denote false plattitudes.
