Greubel Forsey Simplifies Its Original Design With The New Balancier S²

Greubel Forsey has introduced the new Balancier S², an evolution of the innovative design code the brand brought to the market with the Balancier S just over a year ago. Greubel Forsey took a comparatively simpler take on the original design by replacing a text-filled bezel with a simple mirror-polished one; by toning down on the red elements incorporated into the dial design of the original S; and by minimizing the size of the texts inscribed on the barrel.

Boasting the elliptical and multi-dimensional code of the original overall design, the watch features a curved bezel and sapphire crystal that uniformly follows the circular lines of the case, and the same familiar, partially tilted dial with an elegant black finish at the top and a grey frosted finish at the bottom.

The Balancier S² features a set of openworked titanium bridges that follow the gear train and hold the balance wheel, whose reflection can be seen mirrored on the wall of the dial at 6’o clock. The red power reserve indicator and the lacquered, handcrafted hour markers add an additional sense of three-dimensional depth to the overall design, while the seconds indicator at 7’o clock allows the watch's owner to precisely set the time of the watch to his preference.

The watch features either a strap or an integrated bracelet, with sharp bevels throughout complementing their edges. The bracelet bears a darker, grainy satin finishing on the outer surface and matte polishing on the inner ones, along with mirror-polished surfaces harmoniously highlighting the details and facets. Greubel Forsey's distinct design codes can be seen in the partially carved out lugs and crown of the watch as well.

This timepiece by Greubel Forsey features an elegantly decorated, manually wound movement that beats at 21,600 vph and stores a 72-hour power reserve. The watch measures 46.5 in diameter with a height of 13.75 mm, with the synthetic sapphire crystal adding an additional 2 mm to the case's overall thickness. With the rounded design, Greubel Forsey aims to keep the rather large watch wearable for a variety of wrist sizes, thanks to the comparatively short lug designs.

The Greubel Forsey Balancier S² is limited to just 88 pieces with a charcoal grey dial and just 64 pieces with a light grey dial. Greubel Forsey will be producing the model over the course of four years, with initial production starting in 2022. The watch is priced at CHF 205,000 on a rubber strap and CHF 245,000 on a titanium bracelet, and it will hit Greubel Forsey boutiques and authorized retailers in 2022.
