Bulgari Explores the Poetry of Light with the Lucea Notte di Luce

For its latest creation in the Lucea collection, Bulgari has partnered with Japanese Urushi master Yasuhiro Asai to create a watch that transforms light into an artistic experience. The Lucea Notte di Luce, whose name translates to “Night of Light,” is a study on luminosity, expressed through ancient lacquer techniques and contemporary Italian design.

Each dial is crafted by hand in Asai’s Kyoto workshop, where centuries-old Japanese traditions of Urushi lacquer and Raden mother-of-pearl inlay are practiced with extraordinary precision. Over a period of more than sixty days, multiple layers of black lacquer are applied, polished, and enriched with tiny fragments of iridescent mother-of-pearl. The result is a dial that seems to shift and shimmer with every movement, reminiscent of light reflections on water.

The watch’s 33mm case, available in steel and rose gold, is adorned with a diamond-set bezel (1.075 ct) and a pink synthetic sapphire cabochon with a diamond set into the crown. Limited to 80 pieces per variant, the Lucea Notte di Luce is driven by an automatic movement with a 48-hour power reserve. It is priced at CHF21,200 or approximately $26,330 when converted to USD.
