Hvilina Puts Their Eyes to the Sky with the Universum Mechanical Cosmographia

Hvilina expands its collection with the Universum Mechanical Cosmographia. Inspired by the universe around us, it entices with rich details, a novel complication, automatic movement, and a domed case, and all that at a rather attractive price point.

Hvilina is a brand that enjoys doing things differently, and the new Universum Mechanical Cosmographia is an excellent example of this. Dedicated to the cosmos, it combines both science and psyche in a single design, showcasing both the planets in our solar system, as well as the zodiac constellations. This results in a captivating watch, especially since Hvilina opted for a poetic approach.

Hvilina details dial

Hvilina gives new meaning to the GMT function of the movement

The design of the dial is based on one of the earliest star maps known to man, dating back to the 9th century. Hvilina incorporated them together with the zodiac constellations on a disk that moves below a window that covers nearly the entire top part of the dial, making a full rotation in 24 hours. Because of this, Hvilina kept one part of the dial light and the other dark, representing day and night. The lower part of the dial features a three-dimensional model of our solar system. Playing with shapes, text, and textures, Hvilina added a lot of depth, enhancing the fun factor of this watch. The hands also stick out, not only by their bold design but also because all three have a color of their own.

Inside ticks Miyota caliber 9075, a reliable automatic movement that can be admired through the sapphire insert in the caseback. The case itself has a generous diameter of 42.6mm, but wears smaller thanks to the domed shape and relatively short lugs. Hvilina offers it in three colors, from cosmic blue and endless black, to a black and gold version for those who want a touch of luxury.

What is quite unique, especially at this price point, is that Hvilina offers the option of customization. For €30,- the Zodiac sign of your choosing will be highlighted in color on the GMT dial. As each version of the Universum Mechanical Cosmographia is limited to 500 pieces, Hvilina even gives you the option to pick the number you like and have it engraved on the case. The watch comes on a comfortable rubber strap with a quick-release mechanism that features a design in line with the celestial theme of the watch itself. Additionally, a leather strap or one with a crocodile pattern can be ordered along with the watch.

The Universum Mechanical Cosmographia is priced at €533,-, but is now available at €400,- during the pre-order period.
