To mark its 15th anniversary in 2025, Ressence introduced the Type 7, its first GMT watch with a distinctly utilitarian, tool-watch-inspired character. The Belgian brand, headquartered in Antwerp, now expands the collection with two new versions: the Type 7 Black and the Type 7 Cactus. While the black model emphasizes maximum contrast with crisp white indications, the Cactus version combines the technical appearance of its titanium case with a rich green dial.

As with all Ressence timepieces, the Type 7 centers on the brand’s unconventional and innovative approach to displaying time. Traditional hands are nowhere to be found. Instead, the watch relies on the patented ROCS 7 system, short for Ressence Orbital Convex System. A series of rotating displays moves continuously across the convex and shock-protected dial, indicating the hours and minutes as well as a second time zone through a 24-hour display. As the individual elements continuously change position, the passage of time becomes a visible part of the watch’s design. Another unusual feature is the oil temperature display, integrated into the hour sub dial through a color-coded scale.

Exceptional Clarity Beneath a Layer of Oil

The distinctive optical effect of the oil-filled dial is a defining feature of Ressence’s design language. The oil minimizes light refraction, allowing the graphic displays to appear exceptionally sharp, clear, and highly legible. Depending on the viewing angle, the indications seem to sit directly beneath the sapphire crystal, creating an almost digital, screen-like appearance. At the same time, the liquid adds a striking sense of depth and reinforces the dial’s clear, function-focused design.

On the Type 7 Black, white scales and indications stand out sharply against the black background, creating an exceptional contrast. The Type 7 Cactus introduces a saturated green tone that gives the technical concept a distinctive and contemporary character. Despite their different color schemes, both models remain true to the collection’s functional and highly recognizable design thanks to the absence of any visual distortion. 

Titanium, Ceramic, and an Integrated Bracelet

Both new versions feature a satin-finished 41mm case crafted from Grade 5 titanium with polished angles. A color-coordinated fixed ceramic bezel emphasizes the robust character of the Type 7 while providing a distinctive frame for the orbital display. Water resistance of the Type 7 models is rated to 50 meters.

The Type 7 Black and Type 7 Cactus are fitted with an integrated titanium bracelet and a titanium deployant clasp with five adjustable positions. For the first time, Ressence also offers both colorways with a rubber or leather strap matched to the respective dial color. These alternatives allow the watch’s technical design to take on either a more sporty or a more classic appearance.

Crown-Free Operation

Inside the Type 7 is a modified ETA-based automatic movement that powers the patented Ressence Compression Lock System. The design combines the mechanical energy generated by the movement with the complex system of continuously rotating displays. Winding and setting are performed entirely through the back, contributing to the clean, uninterrupted appearance of the case. The movement beats at 28,800 vph and provides a power reserve of 36 hours.
