Citizen Brings Tosa Washi to Two The Citizen Limited Editions

Citizen is adding two limited editions to The Citizen collection, pairing traditional Japanese papermaking with high-accuracy Eco-Drive technology. Both feature Tosa washi paper handcrafted by artisans in Kochi Prefecture. Its translucent structure allows light to reach the movement while giving the dials distinctive textures and depth. 

The two models take different approaches to the material. While The Citizen Wosa Washi Dial Limited Edition AQ4100-65X combines ultra-thin Tosa Tengujoshi paper with a deep crimson upper plate, the The Citizen Wosa Washi Dial Limited Edition AQ4106-00B uses Tosa Unryushi paper, distinguished by long fibers that create swirling, cloud-like patterns interwoven with gold-colored fibers. Both watches share a 38.3mm case diameter and measure 12.2mm thick. Their Super Titanium cases are water resistant to 100 meters, with each model receiving a different Duratect finish.

Crimson Tengujoshi

Limited to 350 pieces, the AQ4100-65X features Tengujoshi washi beneath a specially pigmented upper plate. The deep crimson surface is combined with a sunburst pattern radiating from the center, while the texture of the paper remains subtly visible beneath the color. The case and matching bracelet are finished with Duratect Platinum, giving the metal a bright, silvery appearance. The watch is priced at $2,995

Unryushi with Gold Fibers

The AQ4106-00B, limited to 300 pieces, takes a more natural approach to the washi. During the traditional papermaking process, long fibers are incorporated into the Unryushi paper, creating its characteristic cloud-like patterns. Gold-colored fibers add further texture and contrast. Its Super Titanium case is finished with Duratect Sakura Pink and paired with a crocodile leather strap from a Leather Working Group-certified tannery. The price is $3,095.

A Dial Designed for Legibility

Despite the intricate washi construction, both watches retain a restrained, highly legible layout. Sharp hour markers and faceted hour and minute hands provide definition against the textured backgrounds, while the faceted date window at 3 o’clock adds a precise architectural detail. Thanks to Superluminova coating, the dials remain clearly legible in low-light conditions.

Eco-Drive with ±5 Seconds Annual Accuracy

Both watches are powered by Citizen’s Caliber A060, an Eco-Drive movement rated to an annual accuracy of ±5 seconds. It offers up to 18 months of running time on a full charge when power-saving mode is activated. The movement also features a perpetual calendar, impact detection, automatic hand correction and an instantaneous date change at midnight. The combination of Tosa washi and Eco-Drive builds on a concept Citizen introduced to The Citizen collection in 2017. The translucent paper not only brings a traditional Japanese material to the dial, but also serves a functional purpose by allowing light to pass through to the movement.
