Meet the Frederique Constant Classics Moneta Solarmetre

With the new Classics Moneta Solarmetre, Frederique Constant extends its 2024 Moneta line with a technically forward, visually restrained interpretation of the modern dress watch. For the first time, the collection’s signature coin-inspired design meets a fully integrated solar movement.

A Design Defined by the Coin Edge

Frederique Constant's Moneta collection takes its name from its most distinctive feature: a fluted case profile inspired by the edge of a coin. This architectural detail returns in the new Classics Moneta Solarmetre models and continues to define the watch’s visual identity, framing a dial that remains deliberately understated. Here, however, this familiar aesthetic is paired with a new layer of technical sophistication. The dial is no longer just a design surface, but also a functional component in the energy system, without revealing its role.

First Solar Moneta

The Classics Moneta Solarmetre is the first model in the Frederique Constant lineup powered by the FC-120 solar caliber, developed in collaboration with La Joux-Perret. The movement is designed to remain thin while integrating photovoltaic technology directly into the architecture of the watch.

Several milestones define this release, with it being the first Frederique Constant watch with integrated solar movement, as well as the first Moneta model to use a 39mm case size, fine grain dial texture, or to use interchangeable straps. The collection is offered in three dial colors: Ice Blue, Bordeaux Red, and Cloud White, each emphasizing a different character within the same design framework.

Proportions and Wearability

The stainless-steel case measures 39mm in diameter with a height of 9.8 mm, maintaining classic dress watch proportions while ensuring modern wrist presence. The fluted coin-edge bezel remains the defining design signature, adding texture and depth without overwhelming the overall silhouette. Applied faceted indices, Dauphine-style hands, and a discreet date window complete the dial composition, which is further enriched by the new grainy surface texture.

Solar Technology in Three Layers

At the core of the watch lies a carefully engineered three-layer system. The uppermost layer is the dial itself, designed to appear opaque while remaining light-permeable. Beneath it sit the photovoltaic cells, which convert incoming light into electrical energy. The lowest layer houses the FC-120 movement, including a rechargeable battery and an energy management circuit. This system regulates power distribution between immediate operation and long-term storage. A single minute of light exposure is enough to generate energy for approximately 24 hours of use, while full autonomy in darkness extends up to ten months. After complete discharge, just a brief exposure of around ten seconds is sufficient to restart the system.

Versatility on the Wrist

Each watch is delivered with two interchangeable straps: a leather strap with alligator embossing and a Milanese mesh bracelet. This dual configuration allows the Moneta Solarmetre to shift between formal elegance and more contemporary styling without altering its core identity. Pricing is marked at CHF1,150 or approximately $1,460 when converted to USD.
