Patek Philippe Endows the Golden Ellipse with a Chain Bracelet at Watches & Wonders 2024
At Watches and Wonders 2024, Patek Philippe presents its iconic Golden Ellipse wristwatch in a new pink gold execution, with the model featuring an ebony black sunburst dial fitted with a new pink gold mesh bracelet. Revisiting earlier bracelet styles, the model highlights the refined personality of this legendary dress watch.
With its instantly recognizable shape (a cross between a circle and a rectangle) and its harmonious proportions inspired by the ancient Golden Section— the Golden Ellipse has become a style icon in the Patek Philippe collections. Launched in 1968 with a yellow gold case and blue gold dial, it has since been reissued in other gold tones and with dials of various colors. For its 40th anniversary in 2008, the collection introduced a large model (34.5mm x 39.5 mm) in platinum with a blue sunburst dial (5738P-001), followed in 2018 by a large model in rose gold with an ebony black sunburst dial (5738R-001).
From the time of its launch until the early 1980s, the Golden Ellipse collection was offered not only on leather straps, but also on several types of chain and mesh bracelets, such as a Milanaise bracelet of reference 3548 (1968) or the Polonaise bracelet of reference 3605 (1974). There are also a number of link bracelets with particularly distinctive designs.
Patek Philippe is now launching the Reference 5738/1R-001 with a new bracelet in 18-carat pink gold. Hand-polished throughout, it features a modern, patented construction that evokes the style of classic chain bracelets. It consists of 363 parts, including more than 300 links that are assembled by hand.
The new bracelet is presented as an exclusive feature of this Golden Ellipse Reference. Its modern design makes it easier to adjust the length, whether shorter or longer. The clasp (whose cover is decorated with an engraved motif that echoes that of the bracelet) offers a choice of three adjustment notches.
The new watch measures 34.5mm x 39.5mm wide and is just 5.9mm thick. The pink gold case contains the ultra-slim self-winding caliber 240 (2.53mm); the mechanism is a Patek classic wound by a solid gold micro rotor.
Pricing for the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse ref. 5738/1R-001 is marked at approximately $65,000 when converted to USD.
