Shimmering and Sustainable: Citizen Introduces the Promaster Blue Ocean
Professional dive watch capability, environmentally-conscious materials
An Ocean-Inspired Dial with a Sustainable Story
Citizen this summer expands its Promaster collection with the new Blue Ocean, a dive watch that blends professional specifications with an environmentally conscious approach. Certified to ISO 6425 dive-watch standards, the watch stands out with its shimmering face, whose appearance recalls sunlight dancing across the surface of the sea. The dial is crafted from recycled plastic and printed using Fujifilm’s Structural Color Inkjet Technology. Rather than relying on pigments, the dial’s vibrant colors are created through the reflection of light from microscopic structures within the ink layer. The result is a dynamic, ever-changing display that shifts depending on the viewing angle and lighting conditions.

CitizenDiver Credentials
While the dial’s iridescent appearance lends the watch a playful visual character, every element remains faithful to the requirements of a professional dive watch. The bold hands and applied indexes are designed for immediate recognition and are coated with luminous material to ensure excellent legibility in low-light conditions. A minute track positioned on the rehaut enhances the dial’s sense of depth, while a date display at 4 o’clock adds everyday practicality without disrupting the overall design.

CitizenEco-Drive Technology with Six Months of Power Reserve
Powering the watch is Citizen’s in-house Eco-Drive Caliber E168. The light-powered movement converts both natural and artificial light into energy, eliminating the need for battery changes. Once fully charged, it delivers a power reserve of up to 180 days. Citizen rates the caliber’s accuracy at ±15 seconds per month. The Blue Ocean also celebrates the 50th anniversary of Citizen’s Eco-Drive technology, which remains one of the watch industry’s most successful light-powered movement systems.

CitizenProfessional Specifications for Life Above and Below the Surface
Beneath its eye-catching appearance lies a construction designed to meet the demands of serious underwater use. The steel case measures 44mm in diameter and 11.54mm in height. A unidirectional rotating bezel allows divers to monitor elapsed time, while the screw-down crown and screw-in caseback enhance durability and water resistance. Rated to 200 meters (20 bar) and compliant with ISO 6425 standards, the Promaster Blue Ocean delivers the performance expected of a professional dive watch while remaining versatile enough for everyday wear. Citizen’s commitment to sustainability extends to the strap, which is made from BENEBiOL, a biomass-based polyurethane material developed by Mitsubishi Chemical. The material is designed to offer excellent durability and flexibility while reducing environmental impact, complementing the watch’s broader sustainability-focused concept.
The Citizen Promaster Dive Blue Ocean comes in a special scuba tank-shaped presentation box and is priced at $329.
