Citizen Celebrates 50 Years of Eco-Drive with the Light in Black Collection

Citizen marks the 50th anniversary of Eco-Drive with the Light in Black collection, a five-watch limited-edition series built around black cases and dials with gold-colored accents.

Citizen continues its celebration of the 50th anniversary of Eco-Drive this year with the Light in Black limited edition collection, a five-watch series spanning several of the brand’s core collections. The new models include two Attesa watches, one Promaster Dive, a Classic chronograph and a Citizen L Bianca, each built around a shared black-and-gold design language.

The concept centers on the image of a beam of light illuminating darkness, with black cases and dials accented by gold-colored details. Across the collection, Citizen uses an inkjet printing technique to create five overlapping dial patterns recalling the central theme. The result is a series of dials that shift visually depending on how light reflects across their surfaces.

The lead model in the collection is the Attesa Light in Black ref. CC4078-51E, a 44.6mm Super Titanium watch powered by the Caliber F950 Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS movement. The model introduces Duratect Amber Yellow to the Attesa collection for the first time, using the gold-colored surface treatment across the indices, the ring around the dial at 6 o’clock, and the city names around the sapphire bezel.

Limited to 1,900 pieces worldwide, the watch features a dual spherical sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, 10 bar water resistance, world time functionality, a 1/20-second chronograph, light-level indicator, power reserve indicator and perpetual calendar. It is priced at $2,195.

The second Attesa model, the Attesa Light in Black ref. AT8384-58E, takes a slightly more restrained approach in a 42mm Super Titanium case. Powered by the Caliber H800 Eco-Drive Radio-Controlled movement, the watch uses gold-colored hour and minute hands against a black dial, with contrasting subdial and seconds hands for a cleaner overall layout.

The limited edition is produced in 2,200 pieces worldwide and features global radio-controlled timekeeping, world time, a 1/20-second chronograph measuring up to 60 minutes, perpetual calendar and power reserve indicator. The watch is priced at $1,195.

The Promaster Dive Light in Black ref. BN0264-53E brings the collection’s black-and-gold theme to Citizen’s 40.6mm Eco-Drive diver platform, pairing a gray-tone stainless steel case with yellow gold-tone details on the bezel and crown. The black dial features gold flecks, applied hour markers, luminous hands, and a date display at 3 o’clock, while a black unidirectional bezel and screw-lock crown reinforce the watch’s dive-ready profile.

Powered by the Caliber E168 Eco-Drive movement, the ISO-compliant model is water resistant to 200 meters and is fitted with a triple-link stainless steel bracelet featuring a wetsuit extender that doubles as a tool-less micro-adjust. Limited to 6,700 unnumbered pieces worldwide, it is priced at $495.

The Classic Light in Black ref. AT2576-68E applies the collection’s palette to a 42mm stainless steel chronograph. Gold-colored hands, indices and pushers contrast against the dark case and dial, while gold-colored edges on the inner ring and inner surface of the sapphire crystal continue the collection’s light-through-darkness theme.

The watch is powered by the Caliber H504 Eco-Drive movement, with a 1/1-second chronograph measuring up to 59 minutes, luminous hands and indices, and 10 bar water resistance. Limited to 6,000 pieces worldwide, it is priced at $450.

The final model is the Citizen L Bianca Light in Black, a compact rectangular watch measuring 21.5mm by 7.5mm. Gold-colored accents are used as indices on the dial, with a single diamond at 12 o’clock serving as the focal point. The model also includes the blue crown accent associated with Citizen L.

Powered by the Caliber B035 Eco-Drive movement, the watch offers a seven-month power reserve on a full charge in power-save mode and 5 bar water resistance. The Citizen L Bianca LIGHT in BLACK is limited to 3,800 pieces worldwide and priced at $525.
