Introducing the Formex Essence Ceramica Dark Matter

Formex concludes its 25th anniversary year with the Essence Ceramica Dark Matter, a watch that brings together a solid Muonionalusta meteorite dial, full zirconium oxide ceramic construction, and a new COSC-certified movement.

For 25 years, Formex has steadily built a reputation for combining high-performance engineering with Swiss watchmaking expertise. The Essence Ceramica Dark Matter represents a high point in that journey, marking the end of the brand’s anniversary year on a particularly impressive note. The watch brings together a full ceramic case and bracelet, a micro-adjustable ceramic clasp, and a solid meteorite dial, all executed with meticulous attention to detail.

The dial itself is cut from Muonionalusta, a meteorite that entered Earth’s atmosphere over 4,000 years ago in the Arctic Circle. Formex darkens the dial through a dark-nickel electroplating process that sharpens the meteorite’s naturally occurring Widmanstätten pattern, creating a surface that shifts from deep graphite to metallic highlights as it catches the light. Unlike traditional thin meteorite dial slices mounted on brass, the Dark Matter is engineered as a single solid component, allowing the dial feet to be directly soldered and incorporating a precision-milled, beveled date window at six o’clock. It is furnished with gun-metal indices and hands with brushed facets and polished bevels reflecting light subtly. BGW9 Super-LumiNova on markers and hands ensures legibility in low-light conditions.

Water-resistant to 100 meters, the 41mm case is crafted entirely from zirconium oxide ceramic, a material seven times harder and 30 percent lighter than steel. It is paired with Formex’s patented Case Suspension System and a screw-down crown, both engineered to maintain the watch’s ergonomics and protect the movement from shocks. The full ceramic bracelet integrates a micro-adjustable clasp in ceramic, allowing on-the-fly adjustments over a 5mm range without tools, while quick-release strap options offer further versatility.

Powering the Dark Matter is the Soprod Newton P092, a movement developed exclusively for Formex over three years in close collaboration with the Swiss movement manufacturer. The automatic caliber provides 44 hours of power reserve, features a skeletonized rotor with openworked Formex emblem, and is chronometer-certified in addition to the rigorous Chronofiable testing. Its architecture, with the balance positioned at six o’clock beneath a transverse bridge, enhances resistance to shocks and vibrations, reflecting the brand’s focus on precision and functional engineering.

The Dark Matter is limited to a yearly production of 100 pieces and will be available from December 9, 2025. Pricing is marked at $4,920.
