Independent watchmaking thrives on creative freedom, unconventional thinking and the willingness to challenge established design codes. Few watchmakers embody this spirit quite like Vianney Halter. Born in France and based in Switzerland, Halter has been an independent watchmaker since 1984. His distinctive approach combines traditional craftsmanship with futuristic ideas, often drawing inspiration from astronomy, science fiction and historical timepieces. His celebrated Antiqua, with its riveted, porthole-like displays and unconventional architecture, remains one of the most recognizable expressions of independent horology.

For Louis Erard, this creative freedom has become an essential part of the brand’s identity under Manuel Emch. Since taking the helm in 2019, Emch has pursued a different philosophy of watchmaking: rather than following conventional collection strategies, he focuses on limited editions developed in collaboration with watchmaking artists, designers and skilled craftspeople. The result is a series of distinctive mechanical watches that bring original ideas and individual creative signatures to a considerably wider audience, often at surprisingly accessible prices.

The partnership between Louis Erard and Vianney Halter began in 2020. Their latest creation, the Louis Erard x Vianney Halter Futur Antérieur, takes the dialogue between the two a step further, moving closer to the visual language of the Antiqua while introducing a construction that is entirely new for Louis Erard.

Two Movements, Two Displays

The defining feature of the Futur Antérieur is its twin-dial arrangement. Two raised, riveted bezels frame separate displays: one indicates the hours and minutes, while the other is dedicated to the seconds. Each display is powered by its own automatic movement, based on the Sellita SW100. Both beat at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provide a power reserve of approximately 42 hours.

The unusual architecture is housed in a newly developed stainless-steel case measuring 38mm by 44mm and just 8.85mm thick. Its construction brings together 67 individual components. Circular brushing across the case front, vertically brushed sides and polished chamfers emphasize its sculptural geometry. The two signature crowns, each decorated with six yellow-gilt rivets, echo the details of the bezels.

Gold and Silver

Louis Erard offers two versions, each limited to 178 pieces. The Futur Antérieur Gold features gold-toned, grained dials with circular-brushed outer rings and polished chamfers, paired with black ostrich leather. The Silver edition combines rhodium-plated dials with a blue ostrich leather strap.

Both versions feature Vianney Halter’s signature blued-steel hands, whose distinctive shape adds another unmistakable element of his individual design language. Yellow-gilt rivets provide a common visual detail across both editions.

Water-resistant to 50 meters, both watches are fitted with sapphire crystals featuring antireflective coating on both sides. For collectors looking to acquire both interpretations, Louis Erard also offers a limited set of 78 pairs, presented together in a wooden box.

The Louis Erard x Vianney Halter Futur Antérieur Gold and Silver are each priced at CHF4,950, or approximately $6,000, excluding taxes. The Duo Set is priced at CHF9,900, or $10,100, excluding taxes.
