With WatchTime New York opening today, October 16, more than 40 watch brands and the people behind are gathering at Gotham Hall for three days of watchmaking at its finest. Running through October 18, the event offers collectors and enthusiasts the opportunity to meet watchmakers, founders and executives while discovering the latest releases firsthand. Among them is Ressence's Type 10 DN (Dark Night). With its deep blue, monochromatic design and oil-filled display, the limited edition is a stunning example of the Antwerp-based brand’s unique approach to mechanical watchmaking, in which complex engineering and cutting-edge design serve a clear, intuitive presentation of time.

One Continuous Form

The Type 10’s 41.5mm case is crafted from polished Grade 5 titanium with a hard DLC coating. Its flowing contours continue into the integrated rubber strap, while double-domed sapphire crystals on the front and back reinforce the rounded profile. The deep blue finish extends across the case, dial and strap, giving the watch the appearance of a single, sculpted object. The design reflects Ressence founder Benoît Mintiens’s belief that objects evolve through integration: individual parts become one, the design gets more efficient and unnecessary when weight falls away. At just 82 grams, the Type 10 DN puts this idea into practice. It's designed for everyday wear, with a lightweight make and a clear display intended to feel natural on the wrist.

Instead of conventional hands, Ressence uses its patented ROCS display, in which rotating discs indicate the time alongside a second time zone. The three-dimensional arrangement gives the dial a unique sense of depth, while the oil-filled display brings the indications visually closer to the surface of the sapphire crystal. The result is a graphical showcase with an unmatched clarity. Particular attention went into the minute track. Its 24 titanium segments alternate between small, sandblasted inserts filled with luminous material and larger, linearly brushed surfaces. The direction of the brushing shifts by 30 degrees from one segment to the next, so each catches the light differently. As the wrist moves, light travels around the minute track in subtle facets, bringing an otherwise continuous surface to life.

Cutting-edge Engineering

Behind this visual simplicity lies a complex mechanical design. The watch comprises 538 components, including the in-house-designed automatic caliber RW-04 and the ROCS 10 module. The movement offers a 60-hour power reserve through two barrels reserve, while a magnetic transmission connects the mechanism operating in air with the display moving through oil. A temperature indicator also makes the oil’s operating range visible.

Complexity Within, Simplicity on the Wrist

The Type 10 DN brings this complex mechanics together with a streamlined, cohesive design. The sapphire case back offers a view of the RW-04 movement, while the Ressence Compression Lock System ensures water resistance to 5 ATM. The edition is limited to 100 pieces and will be available from November 2026. It is priced at CHF45,000, excluding taxes, or approximately $48,260 when converted to USD.

The Ressence Type 10 DN will be first presented at WatchTime New York 2026. Get your tickets, here.
